GSMST named Literacy Leader School
The GaDOE’s Literacy Leader award highlights the critical role of grade-level reading, particularly in 3rd and 6th grades, as well as performance on the American Literature End of Course (EOC) test for high schools, along with grade-level assessments in elementary and middle schools, which serves as a key measure of literacy by evaluating students’ reading comprehension and proficiency. Schools with lower initial reading achievement levels demonstrated exceptional growth to qualify for this recognition. Awards were presented across all levels, based on reading performance measured by the Georgia Milestones Reading Status indicator, which assesses students’ comprehension using Lexile scores to gauge their ability to read and understand grade-level text.
