The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology

Governor's Honors Program

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM?

It is a four week intensive study of undergraduate, graduate, and professional-level coursework and experience in a given field.  Students will spend 27 hours a week in highly advanced classes in their given field.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Nothing.  As it has every summer since 1963, the GA State Legislature fully funds this opportunity- the entire month of classes, books, room, board, and entertainment are all covered by the GA State Legislature.

IF I RECEIVED A LETTER DOES THAT MEAN I’VE BEEN SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE?

No. The letter means that you’ve been nominated to participate. The nomination is a multi part process- you will take an exam in your selected subject area here at GSMST (date forthcoming).  Then, if your score meets the county cut-off score (at the time of this writing, the county-cut off scores have not been made available), you will participate in a county-level interview, as will other nominated students from other Gwinnett County schools.  If you are selected during County interviews, you will be asked to complete a state application. GOSA will select a limited number of students to interview at the state level. Finalists will be selected from this final group.

DOES COMPLETING THE FORM COMMIT ME TO PARTICIPATION?

At the moment, you are only committing to participating in the GSMST nomination process; you do not yet know if you will be selected. However, you should not commit if you will not be able to participate for the duration next summer.

WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFORMATION?

See below for links to the GHP website and the 2016 Criteria and Description. Please read this document if you have been nominated in more than one subject area and are not sure which one to choose. It is also recommended that you talk with your nominating teacher(s) if you are unsure.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

If you have been nominated by your teacher, see below for important information and documents.

FORMS, CALENDARS, and TESTING INFORMATION

Testing will be held here at GSMST at the beginning of September. Testing is done after school, so students will need to plan for transportation on the day of their testing. The tests are different for each subject area - they may involve multiple choice questions, essays, or both. There are no study materials available for any of the tests, so there is no preparation to be done. Details will be announced when dates are set.

The GHP Student Application Form can be downloaded from e-class. Applications must include a copy of course history and current schedule. These can be printed from the Parent Portal. (Please use the “printable version” of the course history). Students should save a copy of their application, to use if they move forward to the state application process. Please don't staple - use paper clips.

GHP Student Calendar is available on e-class.
